More traveling U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors will see expedited arrival in-country with the expansion of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Mobile Passport Control to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Eligible travelers can use the app to submit answers to inspection questions prior to arrival, removing the need for completion of paper forms or Automated Passport Control kiosks and thus hopefully speeding up their entire arrival process. With the addition of LAX, 23 major international airports make use of the free app.

“CBP is committed to improving the international travel experience by offering new and innovative technology to streamline the arrival process,” Carlos C. Martel, CBP Director of Field Operations in Los Angeles, said. “Through our partnership with Los Angeles World Airports, travelers arriving at LAX will have another processing option to use that has been proven to reduce wait times without compromising our important border security mission.”

The app is available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and takes in such details as name, gender, date of birth and country of citizenship. It logs self-photos when planning for trips, in addition to the aforementioned questions. Passengers are then distributed a QR code which they can present to a CBP officer upon entry into the United States.
