Honda of America recently announced it is investing $267 million in its Marysville, Ohio, auto plant, which manufactures the Accord.
The investment will create 300 jobs and increase production.
The majority of the funds, $220 million, will be used for new technologies. The weld department will receive 342 state-of-the-art welding robots valued at $165 million.
Other technologies include a laser-brazing process for the Accord’s roof, new stamping techniques for the sculpted body, structural adhesives for improved body rigidity, acoustic spray foam to the body for enhanced cabin quietness, and a sub-assembly process for the Intelligent Power Unit in the Accord Hybrid.
The remainder of the funds will be spent at the Anna, Ohio, plant where the 2018 Accord’s 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines are manufactured.
“The new jobs and production growth will enable us to meet anticipated strong demand for the new Honda Accord,” Rob May, Marysville plant manager, said. “Re-imagining the new Accord and bringing it to life took an incredible effort by our project team and our associates. The privilege of producing America’s best-selling car for the last 41 years is a significant point of pride for our associates.”
More than 11 million Accords have been produced in Marysville since it opened in 1982.
