The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) recently hosted a two-day meeting of transportation industry leaders in support of connected autonomous vehicles and related transportation systems technologies.
Part of RIDOT’s connected and autonomous vehicles program, the Transportation Innovation Partnership Expo works to facilitate discussions for industry leaders on how to meet a variety of technical, regulatory, and partial challenges associated with autonomous vehicles.
Featured expo events included panel discussions on infrastructure planning, environmental issues, workforce changes, and tours of autonomous vehicle testing sites.
“We’re pleased to have this audience of transportation officials, policy makers, manufacturers, and our stakeholders in academics and the industry join us for the Expo,” RIDOT Director Peter Alviti, Jr. said. “It’s another example of Rhode Island stepping forward to be a leader in emerging technologies that literally will change our world.”
RIDOT also issued a request for proposals in the areas of opportunities for partnerships, impacts on the state’s capital planning and execution process, regional safety programs, environmental conditions, state laws and regulations, and workforce and professional training needs.
