The state of Delaware recently received a total of $20,049,671 in funding from the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) annual August redistribution for a variety of infrastructure projects throughout the state.
According to the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), the redistribution funds represent federal transportation improvement monies that were allocated but were not used by other states.
Gov. Jim Carney (D-DE) stated that the additional funds would allow DelDOT to move forward with several needed projects throughout the state sooner than originally planned, creating more jobs and addressing the state’s infrastructure needs.
DelDOT said it would obligate the additional funds for specific projects no later than Sept. 26, including a grade-separated interchange in Kent County, paving and rehabilitation work on Route 54 on Fenwick/Lighthouse Road in Sussex County, bridge painting on Kirkwood Highway and a rehabilitation project for the SR 141 bridge in New Castle County.
“DelDOT values every dollar it receives from FHWA, and we are happy that we responded quickly to this opportunity to further support our robust infrastructure improvement program,” Secretary of Transportation Jennifer Cohan said.
