The Port of New Orleans recently welcomed the inaugural call of the Bahri Yanbu, a new state-of-the-art vessel based in the Middle East, after re-introducing its roll-on,roll-off service for the first time in 12 years.
Formerly known as the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia, Bahri is one of the world’s largest transportation and logistics companies. It announced its decision to call at the Port of New Orleans after securing a contract which allows its to provide a number of technology-related and value-added onshore and offshore services to a variety of New Orleans- and Gulf-based customers.
“The return of roll-on/roll-off service to the Port of New Orleans – for the first time since 2005 – helps us meet the diverse needs of the marketplace and increases our global competitiveness,” Brandi Christian, president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans, said. “The Bahri ships are flexible, state-of-the-art vessels that can simultaneously accommodate Project, Roll-on/Roll-off, Break-bulk and Container Cargo. We expect shippers will be pleased with its flexibility and efficiency.”
According to the port, the 26,000 deadweight tonne (DWT) RoCon vessel will connect New Orleans with the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and India approximately every 24 days. The next call in New Orleans is currently scheduled for late October.
