The Port of Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) recently announced the facility is in the post-storm stage of its 2017 Port Hurricane Readiness Plan.
Security Command Center and Harbor Master Office employees are working around the clock to assess damage, and power has been restored to the port.
Workers also are assessing whether there are any obstructions in the shipping channels. The port is working in junction with the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct hydrographic channel surveys. The surveys were expected to be finished by today.
The port is still in Condition Zulu, meaning everything has been closed and secured. The Coast Guard has, however, allowed the Inner Harbor to open, limited to 20-foot tugs and barges only. The goal is to return to normal operations Monday.
“As we continue our post Hurricane Harvey recovery, we are also supporting and in full communications with surrounding communities affected by the storm,” Tom Mylett, director of Port Security and manager of the Incident Management Team, said. “We are augmenting the tremendous efforts of all local and first responders of the most affected areas in our region.”
The port is the nation’s fourth largest by tonnage.
