The 12 finalists were recently announced for the 2017 America’s Transportation Awards, which are sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and AAA.
“We’re excited about the high level of participation in this year’s competition,” AASHTO Executive Director Bud Wright said. “Not every nominee takes home a prize, but the programs and projects being implemented and constructed across the country such as roads, bridges, bike and pedestrian trails are making communities safer, healthier and more prosperous, so the big winners are the American people.”
The departments of transportation finalists are: Arkansas for the Broadway Bridge over the Arkansas River project, Colorado for the U.S. 36 Express Lanes, Connecticut for the reconstruction of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange, Idaho for the U.S. 20 Thornton Interchange, Indiana for the Ohio River Bridges East End Crossing project, Iowa for the Council Bluffs Interstate System Rail relocation, Kansas for the Johnson County Gateway project, Kentucky for the Ohio River Bridges Downtown Crossing, Maine for Ogunquit Route 1, Massachusetts for the All Electronic Tolling Project, Montana for the Kalispell Bypass-U.S. 93 alternate route, and Virginia for the I-66 Active Traffic Management System project.
The grand prize and the People’s Choice award will be announced at AASHTO’s annual meeting Sept. 21.
