The Port of Vancouver USA recently received a $485,000 grant from the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council (RTC) for the construction of a multimodal path at Terminal 1 on the waterfront.
The grant is part of the Transportation Alternatives Program authorized by the Federal Highway Administration.
Terminal 1 is a 10-acre site that formerly housed warehouses. The port has been redeveloping the property and it now is home to a biotechnology and life sciences building and a pub.
“The port is building on its vision for the waterfront, and this grant from RTC will help us reach that vision,” Port of Vancouver Commissioner Jerry Oliver said.
The ADA-accessible and multimodal path will connect Vancouver’s Waterfront Renaissance Trail to the east of Terminal 1. The trail, in turn, will be connected to the Vancouver Waterfront Park. The 32-acre mixed-use urban redevelopment project is scheduled to be completed next summer.
The project will cost approximately $4 million. Once completed, pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to travel between the park and the trail.
The project is part of the port’s plan to convert industrial areas into commercial sites.
The next phase of the project is the construction of a hotel. Office space and a marketplace are also part of future development.
