Georgia Tech recently dedicated an aerospace manufacturing facility built with a $3 million grant from The Delta Air Lines Foundation.
The facility, the Delta Air Lines Advanced Manufacturing Pilot Facility (AMPF), will allow students and Delta employees to research innovative manufacturing solutions.
“We’re proud to be providing this gift to Georgia Tech and excited about the potential this partnership brings to advancing education in the aerospace and automotive manufacturing fields,” Tad Hutcheson, senior vice president of the foundation, said. “Georgia Tech always is on the cutting-edge of new technology and contributes to Atlanta in so many ways. We’re fortunate to have them in our hometown.”
AMPF is considered a way to find Delta employees and strengthen customer relations. The facility will contain digital manufacturing machinery, including a 3D printer, and will be used to develop and test aircraft and automobile parts.
It will improve Delta’s operations, Gil West, trustee of the foundation and Delta’s senior executive vice president and chief operating officer said.
Georgia Tech President G.P. Peterson said the facility gives students the opportunity to work with industry experts.
The foundation, which was founded in 1968, also donated $2 million in 2015 for a global innovation center. It is dedicated to education as well as health and wellness.
