The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) recently announced that David Silver will serve as vice president of Civil Aviation.
Silver has nearly two decades of experience working for aerospace and defense companies and served for 22 years in the Washington Army National Guard.
As vice president of Civil Aviation, Silver will head efforts to streamline the certification process with the Federal Aviation Administration, to improve aviation infrastructure and to incorporate unmanned systems in the national airspace.
AIA President and CEO David F. Melcher also announced that he will step down as CEO on Dec. 31 to pursue other interests.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished as a team and I am convinced that AIA will continue its growth as a strong force in our industry globally,” Melcher said. “It has also been my great privilege to work with the amazingly dedicated and skilled employees at AIA and with our member company CEOs as we advocated for a strong national defense, robust civil aviation and space programs, a level playing field for international trade, and the creation of a vibrant and capable future workforce.”
Melcher will participate in the selection of his successor, a process that has already begun. He became CEO in June 2015.
