The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) recently opened the new Interstate 95 at Oslo Road Interchange in Indian River County, a year ahead of schedule.

“Opening this interchange one year ahead of schedule reflects this commitment (to innovative measures) and will bring major benefits to the Treasure Coast, from local residents and supply chain partners to Florida’s protected species,” FDOT Secretary Jared Perdue said.

Oslo Road is a designated truck route serving southern Indian River County, and the interchange provides direct access to I-95 for the first time, improving access to the Oslo Road and I-95 Commercial and Industrial Node. The interchange is expected to reduce congestion on existing I-95 connections at Indrio Road and S.R. 60 and improve emergency response times for incidents along I-95by up to 56 percent.

The project also widened Oslo Road from two to four lanes, constructed a bridge over I-95, added sidewalks and bicycle lanes, and installed lighting, a new traffic signal at 66th Avenue and Wrong Way Vehicle Detection technology at the interchange ramps.

A right-of-way acquisition in the southwest quadrant of the interchange allowed for the creation of a gopher tortoise habitat that will serve as the only relocation site in southeast Florida.
