Illinois DOT announces 12 projects in southern part of the state for current construction period

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) recently announced 12 major projects the current construction season in Southern Illinois totaling nearly $492 million.

Three projects will be completed this year with the remainder completing in 2027 and 2028.

The projects are part of the $33.2 billion, six year Rebuild Illinois capital program that will modernize the state’s aging transportation system in all modes of transportation. The program has made approximately $24 billion improvements statewide through March 31. ​ ​

“The historic Rebuild Illinois program continues to transform our infrastructure and enhance key economic corridors across the state,” Gov. JB Pritzker said. “Our ambitious capital program is putting Illinoisans to work as we improve regional transportation systems, encourage new economic activity, and build a better future for all of Illinois.”

The 12 Southern Illinois projects include:

​I-57 will be expanded to six lanes between mileposts 75 and 85, and bridges over Marcum Branch and Gun Creek will be replaced in Franklin County. Work began in 2025 and will be completed in 2028.

Work on the Ohio River Bridge in Massac County includes resurfacing and painting and is expected to be completed next year.

Resurfacing and bridge work on I-64 from the Washington County Line to I-57 near Mount Vernon in Jefferson County will complete soon.
