The American Council of Engineering Companies of Mississippi (ACEC/MS) recently awarded the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and its engineering consultant Garver a Grand Conceptor Award for the I-10 Diamondhead Interchange Improvement Project in Hancock County.
The Grand Conceptor Award recognizes engineering achievements that demonstrate the highest level of quality and ingenuity in the state. It is the highest ACEC/MS Engineering Excellence Awards honor.
“The award presented today greatly exceeded our judges’ criteria of originality and innovation, technical value, social and economic consideration, complexity and exceeding expectations,” Craig Carter, ACEC/MS executive director, said. “Garver, a longtime member of ACEC, along with MDOT, did a superb job on this project that will accommodate the traveling public well into the future.”
The $17 million I-10 Diamondhead Interchange Improvement Project used a solution-focused design, innovative 3D design delivery, multi-modal accessibility and efficient construction phasing. The project transformed a chronically congested interchange into a double-roundabout, widened ramps, constructed an overpass and built a multiuse pedestrian path. The double-roundabout increases safety and streamlines traffic flow.
A Federal Highway Administration’s National Highway Performance Program grant and state funds funded the project. T.L. Wallace Construction was awarded the construction contract.
ACEC/National is the business association of America’s engineering industry.
