The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) recently presented Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) with the Joseph M. Magliochetti Industry Champion Award, which honors elected officials who have worked on behalf of motor-vehicle component suppliers.
“Time and again, Congressman Huizenga has helped MEMA and our members by promoting and protecting the vehicle supplier industry,” Steve Handschuh, president and chief executive officer of MEMA, said. “His direct involvement and the outstanding efforts of his staff has advanced legislation to benefit the supplier industry, and MEMA is pleased to recognize his efforts with this award, which carries great significance within our industry.”
Huizenga was a sponsor of the Federal Vehicle Repair Cost Savings Act of 2015. The previous year, he voted to continue highway and transportation funding, while also supporting waterway and port modernization.
The award is named after MEMA Chairman Joseph M. Magliochetti who served until his death in 2003.
MEMA is the parent company of the Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association, the Original Equipment Suppliers Association, the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association and the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association.
Annually, motor-vehicle component manufacturers contribute approximately three percent of the U.S. gross domestic product. The industry also contributes 4.26 million direct and indirect jobs.
