The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) plans to launch the Washington Zero-Emission Incentive Program in April.
The program will award $112 million in voucher incentives to businesses and fleet operators to help lower the upfront purchase price of zero-emission vehicles. The amount of the voucher will be based on the type of equipment purchased. Small businesses also will be eligible for enhanced incentives.
Businesses and fleet operators must work with pre-approved vehicle and equipment dealerships. The types of medium- and heavy-duty equipment eligible include airport loaders and tugs, agriculture machinery, charging/dispensing stations, commercial boats, construction vehicles, freight-handling equipment freight locomotives, forklifts, refrigerated transportation units, and trucks.
“We’re accelerating the switch to zero-emission vehicles by helping businesses afford new equipment that will benefit them for years to come,” WSDOT Secretary of Transportation Julie Meredith said. “Potential buyers are encouraged to plan now for the availability of these voucher incentives. We anticipate funding will be in great demand and vouchers will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.”
WSDOT partnered with CALSTART to administer the program. The full list of eligible vehicles and equipment will be published online in March.
Interested vehicle and equipment dealerships must register online and complete training.
