The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) recently appropriated $15 million to support three projects.
Funding was Congressional directed spending through the federal Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development section of the fiscal year 2026 Consolidated Appropriations Act.
“Each of these projects addresses real needs across Nebraska, from aging bridges to highway improvements” NDOT Director Vicki Kramer said. “We appreciate the Nebraska congressional delegation’s support in securing these funds, specifically Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) and Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE). Their efforts will help NDOT deliver improvements that enhance safety and economic opportunity for years to come.”
The city of Chadron was awarded $6 million for improvements to the north segment of US-385. Work includes upgrading 17 miles to a Super-2 highway, adding paved shoulders and additional passing lanes, reconstructing intersections, and bridge repairs. Super-2 highways have paved shoulders and passing lanes based on specific highway conditions.
The 38th Street Viaduct project in Omaha was awarded $5 million to replace a viaduct located on US-275 that carries four lanes of traffic and pedestrian access between 42nd and 36th streets.
The city of Fairbury was awarded $4 million for improvements to US-136 including replacing concrete pavement and reconfiguring the highway into a three-lane roadway with a center two-way left turn lane.
