The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is warning motor carriers about fraudulent emails posing as FMCSA or the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). The emails are designed to steal sensitive information or demand illegal payments.

FMCSA and official USDOT communications come from .gov email addresses. There are limited instances, such as customer satisfaction surveys, when an email might come from a non-.gov address. The non-.gov emails never ask for sensitive information. The agency advises email recipients to verify unexpected emails by visiting www.fmcsa.dot.gov. Hover over links to confirm the domain before clicking. Phishing emails typically lead to suspicious, non-.gov domains such as fmcsa.web.saferwebdattaconnect.pro.

The FMCSA never initiates contact to require immediate submission of payments or sensitive information. These are initiated by the customer through official FMCSA websites or portals. The agency also never requests Social Security numbers, bank account details or credit card information via unsolicited emails or phone calls. If sensitive information is required, the customer should initiate contact through official FMCSA phone numbers or web portals.

If you receive a suspicious email, the FMCSA recommends not replying to the sender, opening attachments or clicking on links. Report suspicious emails to the FMCSA Contact Center, the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission.
