The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey along with JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), the company that will build and operate John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 6, have partnered with New York-based Fortbrand Services, a ground support equipment and airport maintenance equipment provider, to manage the terminal’s future all-electric ground support (e-GSE) fleet in a common use, or pooled, setup.

When the terminal is build, its 10 gates will be equipped with a set of electric ground support equipment that will be shared by ground handlers operating in a common-use setup. JMP and Fortbrand will monitor and track the equipment in real time to ensure operational compliance using telematics software. The software will communicate the equipment’s real-time GPS location, authorized drivers, battery life, maintenance reporting, speed controls, and more.

“We are thrilled to debut this innovative shared electric ground services program, which will not only revolutionize the way ground handling is done at JFK Airport – but at other airports across the country, as well,” JFK Millennium Partners CEO Steve Thody said.

The terminal’s future e-GSE fleet supports the port authority’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The fleet is expected to eliminate approximately 2,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
