The Kansas Department of Transportation recently awarded 30 projects statewide $25 million in City Connecting Link Improvement Program (CCLIP) grants to improve intersections and roads.
This round of funding is for the state fiscal years 2027 and 2028 selection cycle.
CCLIP funds improvements on city connecting links that are on state highways. There are matching contribution requirements. Cities with populations of more than 100,000 must have a 25 percent match. Cities with populations of more than 2,500 have local minimum contribution requirements. In this round, local contributions bring the projects’ combined value to more than $39 million.
“Enhancing the safety and accessibility of our local highways is made possible by grants through this essential program,” Gov. Laura Kelly said. “In turn, these roadway improvements help bring in resources and improve connectivity in various regions of the state.”
Projects fall into three categories.
Surface Preservation extend the life of the driving surface and include overlays and joint repair. They are funded up to $400,000 per project.
Pavement Restoration projects involve extensive pavement rehabilitation or full-depth pavement. They are funded up to $1.5 million per project.
Geometric Improvement projects address safety, capacity or operational needs and include adding turn lanes and improving intersections. They are funded up to $1.5 million per project.
