Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) is seeing solicitations for the Austin Light Rail Phase 1 final design and construction contract that will be awarded early next year.

The companies that are selected will control nearly every aspect of the system including bridges, drainage structures, stations, streetscape, tracks, traffic signals, the transitway, and utilities.

The $7.1 billion system will be the city’s first light rail system and will include 15 stations along a nearly 10 miles, pedestrian and cycling paths, and a bridge across Lady Bird Lake.

“Austin Light Rail is a mega infrastructure project that will offer qualified businesses across Texas and beyond a competitive opportunity to provide the materials and services needed to deliver the project,” CEO Greg Canally said. “This final design and construction contract adheres to ATP’s model to partner with the private sector to attract top talent to deliver a world-class light rail system for Austin.”

After voters approved funding for a new light rail system in 2020, ATP was founded to plan, design, construct and implement the system.

ATP is using a two-step procurement process. Qualified firms must submitted proposals by July 3. The project is expected to break ground in 2027 and open for service in 2033.
