The Federal Transit Administration recently awarded the Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) of Flint, Mich., a $12 million improvement grant.

The grant will be used to help the MTA upgrade buses, stations, and facilities and maintain and expand service routes across Genesee County.

“The MTA is committed to improving quality of life for our residents,” Ed Benning, Flint MTA general manager and CEO, said. “We’re excited to grow our operations to better serve the transportation needs of this community, and these funds couldn’t come at a better time. We’re deeply grateful to have Congresswoman McDonald Rivet advocating for Genesee County in Washington.”

U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI) is a U.S. House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure member. She has been working in the committee to improve mid-Michigan’s public transportation, roads, bridges, water management, and overall infrastructure. She introduced the grant award on May 8.

“Affordable and reliable public transportation helps thousands of mid-Michigan families get to work, school, or a doctor’s appointment every single day,” McDonald Rivet said. “Flint’s public bus system breaks down barriers for those who need it most, especially for our neighbors who are elderly or disabled.”

McDonald Rivet will be working on the Surface Transportation Bill later this year with the goal of improving Michigan’s roads and transportation infrastructure.
