NJ TRANSIT, the largest statewide public transportation system in the United States, recently completed construction of the $30.9 million Lyndhurst rail station.
The station replaces a facility that is more than 100 years old and is designed to replicate the neighborhood’s historic style. It is fully Americans with Disabilities Act accessible and includes high-level platforms, elevators, stairs, and canopies.
Service will begin on June 8 and will coincide with the agency’s new rail schedules. The Kingsland station then will close.
The Lyndhurst station is on the Main Line which serves more than 800 weekday passenger trips.
“The completion of the new Lyndhurst Station is another step in our ongoing commitment to modernize our rail network and provide fully accessible facilities for all customers,” Kris Kolluri NJ TRANSIT president and CEO, said. “By combining classic architectural elements with modern amenities, this new station demonstrates how thoughtful design can deliver long-term value to customers and the community.”
NJ TRANSIT provides more than 925,000 weekday trips on three light rail lines, 12 commuter rail lines, 263 bus routes, and Access Link paratransit service. It also is the third largest transit system in the country with 62 light rail stations, 166 rail stations and more than 19,000 bus stops.
