The US-82 widening project in Prattville is substantially complete, officials with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) said on April 11.
The infrastructure improvement project has enhanced the highway for local and regional traffic. Funded by the Rebuild Alabama Act, the project expanded US-82 to four lanes between US-31 and SR-14. Officials estimated the project cost at nearly $38 million, funded by state gas tax proceeds.
“This project will drive economic growth, support local businesses and enhance the quality of life for those who call this area home,” Gov. Kay Ivey said. “Infrastructure is the foundation of economic development—without it, progress is not possible. Every dollar invested yields long-term benefits, strengthening communities and creating new opportunities… These efforts are enhancing how Alabamians work, travel and live across our state.”
The state celebrated the project with a ribbon cutting that included Ivey, as well as state Sen. Clyde Chambliss (R-Prattville); state Reps Jerry Starnes (R-Prattville), Kelvin Lawrence (D-Hayneville), and Van Smith (R-Clanton); and other officials.
“Making US-82 four lanes was one of my top priorities when I ran for the Senate in 2014, and I am proud to see it completed,” Chambliss said. “This project is a major investment in our region, enhancing safety, improving traffic flow and supporting economic growth.”
