
The top Amtrak stations in the Southeast during fiscal year 2024 were in Virginia and North Carolina. Trains operating to the top stations cities offer frequent service and the ability to travel to multiple destinations in the Northeast and Southeast.
“The strong ridership reflects the demand for train travel and the strategic investments North Carolina and Virginia are making to offer the public a viable transportation option,” Jennifer Mitchell, Amtrak executive vice president of strategy and planning, said. “Thanks to our state partners, infrastructure projects are underway so we can bring more service and continue to provide customers an exceptional travel experience.”
The top stations include:
Richmond – Staples Mill Road, service to Washington, D.C., New York, and Boston with additional service to Charleston, Savannah, and Miami. Ridership in 2024 reached 464,881.
Alexandria, Va., service to Washington, D.C., New York, and Boston with additional service to Chicago, Charleston, New Orleans, Savannah, and Miami. Ridership in 2024 reached 358,629.
Charlotte, N.C., service to Raleigh, Washington, D.C., New York, and New Orleans. Ridership in 2024 reached 328,008.
Lorton, Va., Auto Train service to Sanford, Fla. Ridership in 2024 reached 265,818.
Raleigh, N.C., service to Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and New York. Ridership in 2024 reached 261,008.
