The Ohio Rail Development Commission, which works to preserve and improve rail service, recently awarded Cirba Solutions, a battery recycling company, a $150,000 grant to install a new rail spur at its Lancaster facility.

“It is always our goal to support our partners at Indiana & Ohio Railway and the Lancaster Port Authority to promote investment and employment opportunities in the region,” Matthew Dietrich, Ohio Rail Development Commission executive director, said. “This project will greatly enhance the fluidity of railroad operations at the Lancaster facility. Cirba Solutions’ growth and success in the region is a testament to their commitment toward the future.”

The proposed rail project will add five storage tracks, each with the capacity to accommodate six cars, to the east of the facility to help facilitate the delivery of bulk raw materials and will install a pipe rack to load and unload materials. The project also includes a rail scale just north of Cirba Solutions’ facility on a new siding off the Indiana & Ohio Railway mainline.

Cirba Solutions has invested approximately $250 million to expand the Lancaster facility. The company plans an incremental investment of more than $200 million that will continue to expand the facility and will add additional manufacturing capabilities.
