Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced her state had awarded more than $40 million in transportation funding to cities and counties for road and bridge projects.
The funding, part of the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II), was awarded to 24 projects across the state. The ATRIP-II was created in 2019 by the Rebuild Alabama Act, and funds projects of local interest on the state highway system. ATRIP-II is paid for through a $30 million set aside in new gas tax revenue.
“I am proud of the hard work we have put in throughout my Administration to Rebuild Alabama. Rebuild Alabama has helped make us stronger as we have broken ground on hundreds of road and bridge projects all across the state,” Ivey said. “We have projects improving Alabama in all 67 counties, but our job is not finished, and we are not slowing down now!”
While ATRIP-II funding does not require local governments to provide matching funds, 13 of the projects were from cities and counties that put forward more than $16 million in local funds. Selected by the ATRIP-II committee, the projects are anticipated to be under contract this year, and are required to move forward within two years.
