The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) recently discussed at an event initiatives that will address the city’s increasing transportation needs and population.
“The future is now, and it’s happening at MARTA,” Jennifer Ide, MARTA board chairwoman, said. “We are breaking ground, launching innovative services, and expanding our system to meet the needs of our growing region. Together, we’re building a brighter, more connected future for metro Atlanta.”
Collie Greenwood, MARTA general manager and CEO, entered Lindbergh Station on the agency’s first CQ400 train and delivered a speech that highlighted several projects designed to update the transit experience. The CQ400 features improved safety, upgraded lighting and seating, open gangway designs, digital displays, and charging stations.
The agency is investing $1 billion to upgrade its 38 rail stations. A planned Five Points Station project will create a transit hub and city center.
Projects will connect riders more efficiently through congested areas to the larger MARTA network. One project, the MARTA Rapid Summerhill line, is underway while projects for Campbellton Road, Southlake, and SR-54 are planned.
MARTA’s bus network redesign will offer faster, more reliable service by offering 12 on-demand zones in underserved areas and daily service. The number of frequent service routes will increase to 18.
