Planners in Kentucky are seeking public feedback on their draft of a plant to enhance rail service in their state.
The plan, the 2024 Kentucky Statewide Rail Plan, identifies strategies for rail investments planners said are needed to increase the state’s economic growth, improve Kentuckians’ quality of life and improve equity in the state’s most vulnerable and impacted communities. The plan doesn’t propose any policies or funding recommendation, but will serve as a resource for private railroad companies seeking to expand or enhance rail services.
“Whether you’re a rail user, a business owner or resident, your input matters to help plan the future of both passenger and freight rail in Kentucky,” Jeremy Edgeworth, KYTC Freight, Rail and Waterways Coordinator, said. “Good planning considers not just current needs but also anticipated growth and development, and we look forward to hearing the thoughts of rail enthusiasts throughout Kentucky.”
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) said it will hold two virtual public meeting sessions on Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.to hear feedback on their 2024 Kentucky Statewide Rail Plan, and is asking the public to review the draft of the plan. Team members from KYTC will be available during the virtual sessions to make a brief presentation about the plan, and answer questions posed by the public. Public comments will also be accepted for two weeks after the public meetings. Once the public comment period has closed, the plan will be finalized by KYTC and sent to the Federal Railroad Administration for acceptance.
Interested parties can sign up to attend the virtual meeting through the plan’s website, which will also have the plan available for viewing and comments.
