Biden appoints Alvin Brown as National Transportation Safety Board vice chairman

President Joe Biden recently appointed Alvin Brown to serve as National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) vice chairman.

In March, the Senate confirmed Brown as the 47th NTSB member with a term running through 2026.

“I am honored to be named in this new role of vice chair of the National Transportation Safety Board,” Brown said. “The NTSB is the gold standard for public safety, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues at this federal agency to save lives and make transportation safer.”

Brown previously served as U.S. Department of Transportation senior adviser for community infrastructure opportunities and was mayor of Jacksonville, Fla., from 2011 to 2015.

He began his government career during the Clinton administration, serving as Vice President Al Gore’s senior adviser for urban policy. In this role he advised the president and vice president on a wide range of domestic issues including affordable housing, new business development, community revitalization, and job creation. He also served as White House Community Empowerment Board executive director, leading the administration’s $4 billion community empowerment initiatives, and as Commerce Secretary Ron Brown’s senior adviser.

In addition, Brown as served as Bush/Clinton Katrina Interfaith Fund executive director and was appointed The Willie Gary Classic foundation president and CEO.
