The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently awarded airports in 14 states and Puerto Rico $20.5 million in Airport Infrastructure program grants.
The program funds airport planning, baggage system upgrades development, noise compatibility, runway safety enhancements, sustainability, and terminal expansion projects.
“Today’s investments continue our vital work of keeping passengers safe, improving their travel experience, and helping our airports be great neighbors while demonstrating our commitment to safety, sustainability, and capacity for generations to come,” Shannetta R. Griffin, FAA associate administrator for airports, said.
Grant awardees include:
Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in Puerto Rico was awarded $4.2 million to rehabilitate existing pavement on Runway 9/27 to enhance safety and maintain the structural integrity.
Del Rio International Airport in Texas was awarded $3 million to shift Taxiways B, C, D and E, remove direct access, enhance safety and bring the airport up current FAA standards.
Meridian Regional Airport/Key Field in Mississippi was awarded $1.7 million to construct two new airport-owned hangars for aircraft storage and maintenance.
Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport in Texas was awarded $1.5 million to reconstruct 6,000 feet of Runway 18/36.
Massena International Airport-Richards Field in New York was awarded $341,735 to replace the terminal building roof.
