Columbus Regional Airport Authority recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a $2 billion terminal at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

The project also includes a 5,000-space parking garage connected by an elevated pedestrian bridge with 250 electric-vehicle chargers.

“Our new terminal is only possible thanks to the support of our many partners, community members, and airport employees, who have all worked alongside us as we officially kick off construction today,” Joseph Nardone, authority president and CEO, said. “We look forward to opening a vibrant and welcoming new terminal that will reflect Central Ohio and provide a first-class experience for visitors, launch memorable vacations for families, and warmly welcome residents home.”

The terminal is expected to open for the airport’s 100th anniversary in 2029. It will feature 36 gates, including two international gates, a centralized security checkpoint close to the entrance and two curbside levels.

The structure will be built with smart glass and LED fixtures. Amenities will include family restrooms, multiple nursing rooms, multiple sensory rooms, and pet relief areas.

In addition to Nardone, Board of Directors Chairwoman Elizabeth P. Kessler, airport partners, state and local officials, and community members attended the ceremony.

The Columbus Regional Airport Authority manages and operates John Glenn Columbus International Airport, Rickenbacker International Airport, and Bolton Field.
