The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 11 recently highlighted its 2024 construction season accomplishments.
Work included $441 million in infrastructure investments in Allegheny, Beaver, and Lawrence counties.
“The (Josh) Shapiro Administration’s continued commitment to investing in infrastructure has allowed the department to deliver over 50 quality projects throughout the region this year,” Douglas Thompson, assistant district executive for construction, said. “We thank our customers for their patience as we worked to improve our transportation network.”
District 11 put 53 projects put out to bid during the 2024 construction season. A total of 39 slides were repaired, 39 bridges were repaired or replaced, including nine in poor condition, and approximately 741 miles of paving and roadway maintenance were completed.
Notable projects completed or near completion include the $43.9 million I-79 (Neville Island to Moon Run) Improvement project in Allegheny County, the $29.4 million Route 1038 New Kensington Bridge Preservation project in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, and the $23.84 million Route 2048 William Penn Highway Rehabilitation and preservation project in Allegheny County.
From January through October, PennDOT’s private-sector partners completed 356 bridge, highway, and other improvement projects construction contract statewide. PennDOT completed 1,941 miles of paving statewide and improved 5,385 roadway miles.
