On Monday, a coalition of aerospace and defense supply chain companies urged President Joe Biden to continue helping to bring about an end to the ongoing labor dispute at The Boeing Company.

Before a vote on Wednesday, the Aerospace Industries Association’s Supply Chain Policy and Advocacy Council said in a letter to Biden that “swift resolution is paramount” to their survival and to national security and the economy.

“Because the aerospace supply chain is vast and interconnected, the ramifications of this strike extend beyond a single company, affecting countless suppliers across the nation,” the coalition wrote. “Continued disruptions damage the resiliency of the supply chain, as well as the economies of communities that rely on these industries, impacting many of the 2.21 million Americans that work in the aerospace industry, with 60 percent of those jobs directly linked to the supply chain.”

The letter highlighted not only the impact the strike has on the aerospace supply chain, but on how the strike is disrupting production schedules, affecting countless suppliers and threatening job losses throughout the aerospace ecosystem. The coalition also asked Biden’s administration to engage with all stakeholder to seek a resolution to the strike in order to bring the conflict to an end before it could damage the industry and affect national defense readiness.

“Action from your Administration will assist in restoring stability to the aerospace industry and support the aerospace workforce who are essential to its success,” the letter continued. “The importance of the American aerospace and defense industry, of which The Boeing Company is a major part, to our country cannot be understated.”
