The Alabama Department of Transportation recently awarded 11 projects $3.1 million in Rebuild Alabama Act grant funding for road and bridge improvements.

Cities and counties contributed $1.37 million in local matching funds, and the projects will move forward within one year.

Awardees include:

The city of Ashland was awarded $350,000 to resurface Tyson Road from Taylor Road to SR-9 and 5th Avenue South from SR-77 to SR-9.

The city of Margaret was awarded $350,000 to resurface Brookhaven Drive from Sanie Road to Ryan Circle and to conduct drainage improvements.

“From day one of the Ivey Administration, I have made clear to the people of our state that improving Alabama’s roads and bridges is a top priority, and I am proud we continue delivering on that promise,” Ivey said. “Our work is not done, and we will continue delivering results in all 67 of our counties.”

Ivey will visit some of the areas awarded funding beginning this month.

The Rebuild Alabama Act became law in 2019. It created an annual program, using a minimum of $10 million from the state’s share of gas tax revenue, for local projects. During the 2024 fiscal year, more than $15 million in state transportation funds has been awarded through the program.
