The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), one of the largest transit systems in the United States, recently awarded New Jersey-based ConnX, a company providing mission-critical networks and communications, a contract to modernize, integrate and support the agency’s communications and network infrastructure.
SEPTA currently uses a network of legacy systems with 6,000 Centrex lines across 378 locations in Southeastern Pennsylvania. ConnX will consolidate the systems into one communications cloud network, and provide migration support throughout the process. Updating the system is expected to simplify agency operations, allow SEPTA to increase scale as ridership increases, enable connected vehicles, and improve rider experience.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s service area covers 2,200 square miles in Philadelphia and surrounding counties. The agency provides bus, commuter rail, high-speed rail line, service trolley, subway/elevated subway, and trackless trolley service.
