The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently awarded airports in 46 states and American Samoa 320 Airport Improvement Program grants totaling more than $636 million.
The program funds projects such airport development, airport noise compatibility, airport safety improvements, and project planning.
“This $636 million investment helps airports across the nation sustain and improve critical infrastructure to advance the safest, most efficient airport system in the world,” Shannetta R. Griffin, FAA associate administrator for airports, said.
Airport awardees include:
The Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, N.Y., was awarded $24.2 million to rehabilitate a runway to improve airfield safety.
The Philadelphia International Airport was awarded $16.3 million to rehabilitate a runway to improve airfield safety.
Detroit Willow Run Airport was awarded $15.7 million for taxiway construction.
Ellison Onizuka Kona International in Keahole, Hawaii, was awarded $15 million for runway rehabilitation.
Pioneer Field in Valdez, Alaska, was awarded $14.8 million to expand its snow removal equipment building.
Muhammad Ali International in Louisville, Ky., was awarded $14.5 million to reconstruct taxiways.
Rhode Island T.F. Green International in Warwick was awarded $9.2 million for aircraft parking.
San Diego International was awarded $4.2 million to reconstruct taxiways.
Fitiuta Airport in American Samoa was awarded $755,000 for the reconstruction of runway lights.
