CSX releases Environmental, Social and Governance report

CSX Corp. recently released its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report.

The report highlights the company’s advancements in addressing key ESG issues and showcases environmental sustainability achievements.

“Prioritizing environmental stewardship, adhering to the highest governance standards, and positively impacting the lives of employees and communities are critical foundations of our mission to be the leading supplier of rail-based freight in North America,” Bryan Tucker, CSX vice president of Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainability, said. “As the most sustainable option for moving freight, CSX believes progress in these areas help advance the entire rail industry. We are committed to constant improvement as we move forward, together.”

Achievements include:

CSX helped customers avoid approximately 12.9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

It tested 10 locomotives with a biodiesel fuel blend. This resulted in a nearly 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to diesel locomotives.

The company expanded its nature-based solutions projects and reforested 144 acres with more than 53,000 trees.

A total of 75 percent of money spent was on suppliers were suppliers in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Supply Chain program. The program aims to improve sustainability and reduce a company’s value chain carbon footprint.

CSX launched its first hydrogen fuel cell locomotive.
