The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) recently stated that it hopes Congress will consider aerospace and defense priorities that strengthen the industries’ resiliency and support workforce investment in the coming National Defense Authorization Act.
In releasing its list of international legislative priorities, AIA said it hoped Congress would consider legislative provisions that would enable (A&D) to continue working with allies and foreign partners, as well as to support foreign policy and nationals security interests.
“The U.S. defense industrial base has worked with foreign partners and allies for decades to build a resilient global supply chain that makes our country stronger. Now, we need Congress to take steps to remove outdated barriers to trade with our allies and partners that accelerates our industry’s ability to support global security,” AIA Vice President of International Affairs Dak Hardwick said. “AIA’s priorities call on Congress to adapt to a rapidly changing world, allowing us to out-innovate, out-create, and out-deliver our adversaries.”
The legislative priorities include raising the Congressional notification thresholds to be commensurate with inflation, reimagining and funding the Special Acquisition Defense Fund, ensuring appropriate funding for the health of the defense security cooperation enterprise, and promoting supply chain resiliency and strengthening the U.S. industrial base.
