FedEx recently ordered 150 Blue Arc EV (electric vehicle) Trucks from The Shyft Group, a company providing specialty vehicle manufacturing, assembly, and upfit for the commercial, retail, and service specialty vehicle markets.
The Blue Arc truck is designed for seamless fleet integration and real-world commercial applications. Its regenerative braking system can regenerate between 20 and 30 kilowatts of power.
FedEx tested the vehicle on last-mile delivery routes in Memphis. During the test, the truck operated eight- to 10-hour routes under challenging conditions including temperatures ranging from 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
“As we work towards the phased electrification of our entire global pickup and delivery fleet by 2040, FedEx is eager to incorporate new and efficient electric vehicle models that meet the demands of our diverse network,” Pat Donlon, FedEx Express vice president of global vehicles, said. “We look forward to bringing the Blue Arc into our growing portfolio of electric vehicles in service around the world.”
The trucks will be integrated into the U.S. FedEx pickup and delivery fleet.
The Shyft Group employs approximately 3,000 people and operates facilities in Mexico, Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.
In 2023, the company reported sales of $872 million.
