Global airport evaluation firm Skytrax recently named Newark Liberty International Airport’s new $2.7 billion Terminal A as the world’s best new airport terminal.
The Skytrax honor is considered a global benchmark of airport facility excellence. The firm conducted passenger surveys between August 2023 and March 2024 and evaluated travelers’ experiences with airport facilities, arrivals, check-in, shopping, staff service, security and immigration through departure at the gate, and transfers.
Terminal A is the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s largest single investment in New Jersey.
The 1 million-square-foot terminal opened in phases throughout 2023. It served 15 million passengers within its first year of service.
Last month, Skytrax also honored Terminal A with a five-star rating. The rating was the result of an audit of the terminal’s 2023 facilities, operations and customer service.
In 2023, the American Society of Civil Engineers in New Jersey named Terminal A as its 2023 Project of the Year.
The U.S. Green Building Council awarded the terminal with a LEED gold certification. LEED is the world’s most widely used green-building rating system and an international symbol of environmental responsibility.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization presented Terminal A with a 2023 Prix Versailles Special Prize for the terminal’s exterior.
