Chicago-based R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company (RRD) announced it is expanding its labels production capacity on Wednesday.
The marketing, packaging, printing and supply chain solutions company said it would be installing four new presses in its ISO 9001:2015 certified facilities across the country. The presses will provide faster total throughput, officials said, enhancing the company’s efficiency and flexibility to support its clients’ needs. The presses are expected to be operational by mid-2024.
“The market is constantly changing, and with our highly connected, global network we remain committed to investing in the right technology to meet our clients’ evolving label needs,” Lisa Pruett, president of RRD’s packaging and labels segment, said. “Speed to market, high-quality products, and strong partnerships are important to our clients – we continue to keep those priorities top of mind.”
The expansion will encompass two ETI flexo presses outfitted to vertically integrate face and liners paper for the creation of pressure sensitive label stock; one Mark Andy P9 flexo press to produce variable image labels and one Mark Andy digital hybrid press to allow RRD to serve clients in a more rapid environment.
Additionally, RRD officials said, the company is opening a new state-of-the-art quality lab that will allow the company to evaluate and develop products ahead of production. The center will offer paper analysis, adhesive properties testing, accelerated aging and exposure analysis, printability and other testing procedures. Officials said the lab is expected to be operation in May 2024.
