The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recently opened the application period for the new $2 million FY24 Mobility and Transportation Innovation Pilot Program (MATIP).
The program helps fund public transportation projects in Mercer County that increase access to public transportation among disadvantaged communities, emphasize or enhance passenger mobility, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Local government and transit agencies are eligible to apply.
Proposed projects must meet three eligibility criteria. They must enable low income people, including those without smartphone access, to access transportation services made available through the project; include accessibility features to accommodate the mobility needs of those with disabilities; and utilize innovative technologies or strategies that have been successful in similar transportation projects.
“Growing up in Jersey City, I relied on public transportation to get me to where I needed to go, and I am happy to announce the Mobility and Transportation Innovation Pilot Program will fund projects that will make public transportation more accessible for our underserved communities and constituents in Mercer County,” NJDOT Acting Commissioner Fran O’Connor said. “By creating programs like MATIP, we encourage the use of public transit and reduce New Jersey’s carbon footprint.”
The application deadline is May 31.
The NJDOT Division of Local Aid and Economic Development administers the grant.
