The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recently launched a safety campaign designed to increase awareness of the increased number of road crashes and fatalities and encourage safe travel on all modes of transportation.

“The department is continually working to make our roads safer for all modes of transportation and this campaign is a way to remind and empower everyone that they can do their part in preventing tragedies,” Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski said. “The national strategy of ‘Toward Zero Deaths’ is our collective goal and we can support that locally through our commitment to ‘Be DelAWARE.’”

The DelDOT Leadership Academy was tasked with creating the campaign after the state saw a near record number of fatalities in 2022. It includes a webpage dedicated to safety initiatives, and advertising to raise awareness and remind residents about the importance of safety.

To date, there have been 21 fatalities in 2024.

The academy also developed a safety pledge for residents to show their support for the initiative and to commit to doing their part to make roads safer.

On April 17, DelDOT, Delaware State Police, and the Office of Highway Safety will hold a safety summit in Wilmington to discuss ongoing efforts and new initiatives that address crashes and fatalities.
