Maryland Gov. Wes Moore recently visited the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) headquarters in Hanover to support efforts to build a safer, more equitable transportation system statewide.
“MDOT is at the nexus of everything we hope to achieve as a state,” Moore said. “This agency touches each of our priorities – from making Maryland safer, more affordable, more competitive, and making Maryland the state that serves. I want to thank the thousands of MDOT employees who make up the heart and soul of this agency — together, we will continue to work to build a transportation system that all Marylanders deserve.”
Moore learned about efforts to improve electric vehicle infrastructure, viewed agency equipment, toured the department’s Harriet Tubman Archaeology Lab, held a town hall with state employees, and honored department employees who have served more than 50 years with the agency.
Moore also met with members of MDOT’s Minority Business Enterprise program to learn about how they are ensuring enhanced representation in state procurement and contracting opportunities from small, minority, and veteran and women-owned business owners.
Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld and agency leaders and employees joined Moore.
MDOT oversees six modes – the State Highway Administration, the Maryland Transit Administration, the Motor Vehicle Administration, the Maryland Port Administration, the Maryland Aviation Administration and the Maryland Transportation Authority.
