The funding Fiscal Year 2024 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act includes $350 million for the Cape Cod Bridges.

President Joe Biden requested an initial $350 million investment for the project in his fiscal year 2024 budget.

The legislation brings the total federal commitment to $600 million. In December, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Massachusetts a $372 million grant.

“We are pleased to have secured $350 million in the fiscal 2024 appropriations bills for the Cape Cod Bridges project,” U.S. Sens. Edward J. Markey (D-MA) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and U.S. Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) said in a joint statement. “This funding is another major step towards replacing the aging Sagamore and Bourne bridges and delivering much-needed federal investment to Cape Cod, the Islands, and the surrounding region. We are grateful for Senate Appropriations Chair Patty Murray for prioritizing the Bridges and appreciate the ongoing partnership of Governor Healey and the Biden administration to make this project a reality.”

The Massachusetts delegation sent a letter last year to Civil Works at the Army Corps Assistant Secretary Michael Connor and White House Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young, urging the Corps to request funding in its fiscal 2024 budget to replace the Cape Cod Bridges.
