Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Westmoreland County Transit Authority (WCTA) and Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce officials are encouraging the public to share feedback on the authority’s Transit Development Plan now through March 22.

The plan is a strategic blueprint for improvements to transit service for Westmoreland County. It describes various improvement options in the improved, enhanced, and aspirational categories. The improved network options could be funded with WCTA’s current budget while projects in the other categories would require additional funding.

“More investment in public transit is long overdue, which is why Governor Shapiro proposed the first major new investment in public transit in over 10 years,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said at an event highlighting Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget proposal that calls for an additional $282 million investment for transit. “This is an investment in reliable public transit that can meet our residents’ current and future needs. With nearly one million Pennsylvanians using public transit daily, we have an obligation and opportunity to invest in them and our communities’ futures.”

The public can comment online, at the Westmoreland Transit facility in Greensburg, or at local public libraries. Comment submitted in writing must be dropped off at Westmoreland Transit or the libraries.
