The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), the trucking industry’s non-profit research organization, is asking motor carriers to participate in an annual update of the organization’s Operational Costs of Trucking report.

The report is an industry resource for benchmarking costs and operations.

ATRI collects data from for-hire motor carriers to produce insights on key industry trends. The organization is seeking operational cost data by April 26.

The requested cost data includes driver pay, insurance premiums, and equipment lease or purchase payments costs for the year 2023 on a per-mile or per-hour basis. The organization also seeks data on driver turnover, dwell time per stop, and percentage of empty miles.

Carriers and owner-operators can submit their responses online or via an emailed PDF form. All information is confidential and it is published only in an anonymous, aggregated form.

Participating motor carriers will receive an advance copy of the full report and a customized report, comparing their fleet’s costs and operations to peer carriers of the same sector and size.

Founded in 1954 ATRI, the organization participates in transportation studies and operational tests. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Sacramento. It manages the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Freight Mobility Program.
