In 2023, the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority, a public body tasked with developing, promoting and safely operating Reagan National and Dulles International airports, saw a record 50.6 million passengers.
“Setting a new record is a remarkable accomplishment that can be credited to continuing recovery from the COVID pandemic and the hard work of our airport team and their partners,” Jack Potter, authority president and CEO, said. “We are not slowing down as upgrades continue for our customers at Reagan National, as well as a new concourse at Dulles International. Our team thrives on recruiting new airline service and finding new ways to provide an outstanding travel experience while planning to meet the region’s long-term transportation needs.”
Reagan National had 25.5 million passengers in 2023, 6.2 percent higher than 2022 when the previous record was set. This occurred despite capacity limitations at New York City airports and flight reductions to accommodate a runway rehabilitation project.
The project will upgrade Terminal 2 restrooms and create spaces to relax at the gates and terminals.
Dulles International had 25.1 million passengers. In 2022 and 2023, eight new airlines launched nonstop flights from the airport. This year, the airport will offer service to 80 domestic and 59 international destinations via 42 airlines.
