The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award to Alfonso “Al” Denson, president and CEO of the Birmingham Airport Authority in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Distinguished Service Award is among AAAE’s highest recognitions. It is intended for airport executives who serve the AAAE and other aviation organizations and who also are active in their communities.
Award recipients also must be Accredited Airport Executives.
“Al is an invaluable colleague who has tirelessly served the nation’s aviation community in a number of important roles, including widely-respected airport director and active AAAE member,” AAAE Chairman Carl Newman said. “In addition to nearly two decades as a successful airport director, Al has been so passionate about airports that he has undertaken a large number of volunteer positions, resulting in invaluable improvements throughout our industry.”
Denson has served as president and CEO of the Birmingham Airport Authority since 2000. He has served on the AAAE Board of Directors, its Policy Review Committee, its Airport Legislative Alliance Committee and on the Board of Directors of the Southeast Chapter of AAAE. His civic involvement includes serving as chairman for two nonprofit organizations.
In addition to the Distinguished Service Award, Denson has been awarded the Airport Minority Advisory Council Hall of Fame Award and the FAA Airport Minority Advisory Council National Award of Excellence.
