Evansville, Ind.-based Berry Global announced Tuesday it had added a new balewrap brand file made from 25 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic to its product offerings.

The SilotitePro1800 Sustane incorporates PCR into a high-performance product in order to provide quality silage film with an improved environmental profile to its customers. Berry Global said the use of recycled content was part of its Five-Pillar program to improve Silotite’s sustainability. The film also provides customers with a longer reel length so customers can wrap more bales per reel, the company said, saving customers time and preserving silage quality.

“We are proud to continue offering customers a range of films that meet high-performance standards across quality, functionality, user experience, innovation, and sustainability. The introduction of SilotitePro1800 Sustane film, alongside the other initiatives in our five-pillar sustainability program, achieve these aims,” Bart Geeraert, Commercial Director of Berry Global’s European Agricultural Films business, said.

Berry’s use of recycled content supports the circular economy, officials said, and diverts waste from landfills. Additional life cycle analysis data shows that the film reduces the environmental load by nearly a quarter (24 percent) compared to its standard Silotite product.

Additionally, the product has been certified by RecyClass, as giving users full traceability to the origin of the recycled content. Conveniently wrapped in polyethylene (PE) sleeves, both the balewrap and other packaging can be recycled together eliminating the need to separate them, officials said.
